Meet Our Team

Our team consists of seven physicians and one physician assistant, as well as an office manager and clinical, front office and billing staff. We take pride in the fact that many of these people have been with us for years. All of our physicians are board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Subspecialities include electrodiagnostic medicine, pain medicine and pediatric rehabilitation.

Richard David Ball, M.D., Ph.D.

Richard David Ball, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Ball received his B.S. and M.A. from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. He earned his Ph.D. and his M.D. at the University of Michigan, where he also completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation. He is board certified and is a frequent contributor to scientific journals, and a lecturer at national meetings. He spent five years at University of Michigan as a assistant professor prior to coming to Traverse City in 1986. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine.

James R. MacKenzie, M.D.

James R. MacKenzie, M.D.

Dr. MacKenzie, is a graduate of Michigan State University, where he received his B.S., and Wayne State University School of Medicine. He did his internship and residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at William Beaumont Community Hospital in Royal Oak and Troy, Michigan, followed by post-graduate training in orthotics, prosthetics and interventional pain management. Dr. MacKenzie has been with Neuromuscular & Rehabilitation Associates since 1989. A managing partner, he also treats patients in Charlevoix twice a week.

Kimberly Augenstein, M.D.

Kimberly Augenstein, M.D.

Dr. Augenstein earned her B.S., a secondary teaching certificate, and her M.D. from the University of Michigan, where she also did a combined residency in pediatrics and physical medicine and rehabilitation. She joined Neuromuscular & Rehabilitation Associates in 1998 as a pediatric specialist. Dr. Augenstein is a fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Academy of PM&R, American Academy of cerebral palsy and developmental medicine. She treats both adults and children.

Stephen J. Andriese, M.D.

Stephen J. Andriese, M.D.

Dr. Andriese has a B.S. from Calvin College and while completing his M.D. at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, he also did graduate work in African studies. He completed his internship at Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids, residency training at University of Michigan, and has post graduate training in interventional pain management. Dr. Andriese practiced in Grand Rapids for several years prior to joining Neuromuscular & Rehabilitation Associates in 2006.

Tracy Riddle, D.O.

Tracy L. Riddle, D.O.

Dr. Riddle earned her B.S. in human biology, with a specialization in health and humanities, from the Lyman Briggs Honors College of Michigan State University. After receiving her D.O. from MSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, she remained in the Lansing area, where she did her osteopathic internship at Ingham Regional Medical Center, was chief resident at Sparrow Hospital, and completed a fellowship at Lansing Orthopedics.

Previous to coming to Traverse City, Dr. Riddle was in private practice, specializing in interventional spine medicine and electromyography. Her professional memberships include the American Osteopathic College of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and both the American and Michigan Osteopathic Associations.

Marshall T. Poole, D.O.

Marshall T. Poole, D.O.

Dr. Poole received his B.A. and D.O. from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.  He did his internship at Garden City Hospital in Garden City, Michigan, and completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Michigan where he served as chief resident.  He has co-authored several articles for publication and presented at national conferences for physical medicine and rehabilitation. He is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the American Osteopathic College of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine.

James C. Frick, P.A.-C.

James C. Frick, P.A.-C.

James Frick joined Neuromuscular & Rehabilitation Associates in 2006, and is responsible for consultations in physical medicine and rehabilitation and inpatient rehabilitation at Munson Hospital. He earned his PA degree from Mercy College of Detroit and has served as program director for the PA program at Wayne State University, and where continues as a part-time assistant professor. He was a Fulbright Scholar who developed and taught a preventive medicine curriculum in Siberia, Russia. He also developed the country’s first Internal Medicine P.A. department at the Detroit Medical Center.
